WHO WE ARE

A vision of faith that grows, serves, and connects

EXPERIENCE LIFE-CHANGING GROWTH

At First Presbyterian, we believe in growth that transforms us from the inside out. Our faith calls us to be more like Jesus, and we strive to provide clear paths for spiritual transformation that lead to life-changing growth. Through worship, service, and community, we challenge ourselves to live fully into God’s calling, encouraging each other to use our unique gifts and passions. As we grow, we invite others to join us on this journey, expanding our community of faith and deepening our commitment to love and serve.

A PLACE FOR ALL GENERATIONS AND FAMILIES

We are a church family that welcomes and values every generation and all types of families. With a strong focus on childhood development, we partner with parents and caregivers to help kids take their first steps in faith with hope, confidence, and joy. We’re also here for families of all kinds, offering support and resources for each stage of life. First Presbyterian celebrates diversity and welcomes people of all backgrounds, orientations, and identities into our community.

A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY HUB

Our church is here to serve Hampton and beyond. As a community hub, we open our doors to local nonprofits, families, and individuals in need. We’re committed to collaborating with other leaders to address the challenges facing our community, and our updated facilities are designed to be a place of support, connection, and shared purpose. We’re proud to make a lasting impact while ensuring that our spaces remain accessible, welcoming, and sustainable for the future.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A PRESBYTERIAN (CHURCH)?

bible_29295bc.jpg

Some of the principles articulated by John Calvin during the Reformation are still at the core of Presbyterian beliefs.

Among these are the sovereignty of God, the authority of Scripture, justification by grace through faith and the priesthood of all believers. What these tenets mean is that God is the supreme authority throughout the universe. Our knowledge of God and God’s purpose for humanity comes from the Bible, particularly what is revealed in the New Testament through the life of Jesus Christ. Our salvation (justification) through Jesus is God’s generous gift to us and not the result of our own accomplishments. It is everyone’s job — ministers and lay people alike — to share this Good News with the whole world. That is also why the Presbyterian church is governed at all levels by a combination of clergy and laity, men and women alike.

Presbyterians are distinct in two major ways. They adhere to a pattern of religious thought known as Reformed theology and a form of government that stresses the active, representational leadership of both ministers and church members.
