STAFF

Rev. Eric R. Peltz

Pastor

Since October 2022, Rev. Eric Peltz has led First Presbyterian with a focus on fostering a just and generous faith. His sermons often reference a range of cultural influences, from Malcolm Gladwell to Disney-Pixar. Eric holds degrees from Wheaton College and Princeton Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing a DMin in organizational trust. He and his wife, Ellen, enjoy life on the peninsula with their four children.

Martha Owens

Contemporary Music Director

Martha has been leading worship at First Presbyterian since 2013, blending her classical training with contemporary worship styles. With a background in music ministry and chaplaincy, she brings energy and a heart for worship to the team. Martha studied voice at William & Mary and has recorded two albums. In addition to leading worship, she works as a Licensed Professional Counselor and enjoys spending time with her three children and golden retriever, Summer.

Rita Leonardi

Children's Church Coordinator

Rita brings over 40 years of experience in music and Christian education to her role. She holds degrees in music and educational library media and has taught every age group in Sunday school. Rita is passionate about creating engaging, scripture-based lessons for children and believes that a thriving children’s ministry is key to a growing church. Outside of church, Rita works as a teacher/librarian and teaches voice. She enjoys spending time with her family and attending community events.

Wendy Stephens

Administrative Assistant

Since November 2013, Wendy has been the hub of communications and operations for First Pres' ministries. Her long-term membership, dating back to her baptism in 1986, helps her connect the dots between people’s passions and possibilities. Wendy has a diverse work history, including roles as a bookkeeper, realtor receptionist, and interior designer. In her free time, she enjoys reading, going to the movies, crafting, and flipping homes with friends. Wendy has two adult sons and has been married for over 40 years.

Steve Kolb

Traditional Music Director & Accompanist

Steve joined First Presbyterian in August 2011, drawn by the church’s commitment to “mission above style.” A talented pianist and organist, he holds degrees from Wheaton College and Northwestern University. Throughout his career, Steve has served in churches across various denominations and continues to teach piano. Outside of music, he enjoys running, hiking, and gardening. Steve and his wife, Jo, have three children.

Dan & Janet Burdette

Directors of Handbells

Dan and Janet have been directing handbell ensembles at First Presbyterian for 35 years. Dan holds degrees in music education and trombone performance and has performed professionally with The United States Army Band. Janet, a retired math teacher, has sung in choirs and played handbells since 1975. Together, they lead the Coventry Adult Handbells and have two grown sons.

Donna Herring

Director of Children's Ministry

Donna joined First Presbyterian in March 2024. With a background in mathematics education and Christian ministry, she is passionate about helping children and youth build meaningful relationships with God. Donna holds a master’s in Christian education and divinity and is currently in the PCUSA ordination process. She has four children and enjoys gardening, hiking, and cooking with her husband, Harold.

Kathy & Abe Rivera

Youth Directors

Kathy and Abe Rivera have led the youth at First Presbyterian for the past six years, fostering connections between the youth, the church, and the community. Kathy is an elementary school teacher and Abe, a project manager, has spent many years coaching youth sports. Together, they have two children and enjoy outdoor activities, sports events, and beach vacations.

The Session meets at 7:00 pm on the fourth Thursday of each month except November and December when it meets on the third Thursday.
